TMI® Series 16000 Three-Movement Timelock Directions for Locking

Introduction:  TMI series 16000 Timelocks are designed to provide the ultimate in protection with combined ease of operation and durability. Our timelock utilizes three movements (some may be equipped with two) to provide “redundant safety. It only requires one (1) movement to unlock your new timelock.  In the event that one movement fails, the timelock will still function correctly, unlocking at the pre-set time. Never lock your timelock with only one movement functioning.  If you have any doubt as to the functionality of your timelock, contact the installing company or manufacturer of your equipment prior to locking the door.

Locking Procedure - Mechanical Movements

  1. Determine the number of desired locking hours. Example:  The time of locking is 5PM and the desired time for unlocking is 7:AM the following day. This equals 14 hours of locking time.

  2. Using the supplied winding key, wind each movement for the predetermined locking hours. A “pointer “ which reflects the movements’ locking hours is usually located at the 1:30 position to the right of the movement. Note:  Each movement in the 16000 series housing must be wound before any attempt is made to lock your timelock.

  3. Depress the actuator lever, located in the bottom center of the front cover. Considerable resistance will be noted. This condition is normal and part of the locking function.

  4. Ascertain that all movements are running correctly by visibly checking the action of the balance wheels, located at the top of each movement. If there are not at least two (2) functioning movements, move the “Release” lever, located on the far right side of the movement laterally in the direction indicated by the arrow. This action will immediately unlock the timelock and leave it in a safe condition until qualified repair personnel can be summoned.

  5. If all movements (or at least two) are functioning correctly, close the door and fully extend the locking bolts of your safe or vault.  Attempt to retract your containers locking bolts.  Retraction beyond small movement of the handle should be impaired by the timelock.  Return the handle to the fully locked position and ascertain that the combination lock or locks are secure by turning each dial at least three times in the normal locking direction for each lock.

Locking Procedures - Time Only Electronic Movements

Electronic series # 114E movements are dealt with in the same manner as mechanical movements.  Follow steps one through five as outlined.  There are several special considerations:

  1. Non-reset 114E movements must have their locking hours installed and set within a one (1) minute window. If you set these movements incorrectly and do not have final, correct locking hours installed you will have one of two choices.  If there are three movements in the case and you only set one incorrectly, continue with the normal locking procedure, provided the movement was set incorrectly with excessive locking hours. Option two is to remove the front cover and remove the battery retainer. Power down the movement and reinstall the power cell. Reassemble the front cover and start again. Note: if you are unsure, do not lock your container.

  2.  Electronic movements are designed to prevent a lockout in the event of battery power failure.  These movements will not allow you to arm them if the movement detects a low-power condition.  A battery symbol will appear in the lower right corner of the LCD display, indicating that it is time to change the power cell.  If you have a low battery indication on one, it is safe to assume that all three should be replaced.  Annually, qualified service personnel should carry out a complete inspection and battery replacement.

    Locking procedures for Weekly-Programmable Movements

Weekly-Programmable Movements are pre-set to specific opening times for an entire week at a time.  This program is redundant and does not require any hour calculations.  In function, all that is required is that you wind each movement counter-clockwise until resistance during winding is no longer detected.  The movement’s LCD display will than indicate the next open time.  You have exactly one (1) minute to access programs 1,2 or 3 during this setting window.  Follow the provided directions when accessing, setting up or changing batteries on this type and style movement.
