Model 1843-1 & 1843-2 Delayed Action
Timelock
General Information
TMI Delayed Action Timelocks consist of two
primary components.
Model 1843-1 contains a single timer movement.
Model 1843-2 contains a double escapement movement.
Both models incorporate a Group 2 combination lock.
The function of the timer mechanism is to “Delay” or
retard the final unlocking of the combination lock.
By “delaying the action” of the combination lock,
immediate access is not possible.
This simple, proven method of control prevents armed robbery
and saves lives.
The benefit of a double movement escapement is simply
redundant function.
In the event that one of the escapements fails, the second
escapement will still allow the lock to be operated.
In the short term, this feature guarantees that you will not
experience a lock-out.
Our timer mechanisms are built to exacting standards in
Switzerland.
Under normal use, these timers should be serviced every two
(2) years.
By design, our double escapement DAT (Delayed Action
Timelock) has a built in fault indicator.
In the event that one of the escapements fails to function,
the actual set delay period doubles.
Example: the normal delay period is set for 15 minutes.
If one of the escapements fails, the lock will not release
for approximately 30 minutes.
This warning alerts the end user that the timer portion
requires repair or replacement.
How to Use Your New DAT: Dial your combination in the
usual manner, following the enclosed combination lock directions.
You will feel a tightening of the dial the first or second
time you rotate the dial to the right.
This tightening action indicates that the movement is being
wound and that the delay period has started.
Attempt to retract the lock bolt by making the final turn of
the dial to the right until the dial comes to a complete stop. **Do
Not Force The Dial.** When the dial comes to a complete stop, this
indicates that the combination was dialed correctly and that the
lock will open at the expiration of the pre-set delay period.
Park the dial on #10 and wait for the delay period to elapse.
At the expiration of the delay period there is an
“allowable open period.”
This period is less than three (3) minutes.
During this open period, rotate the dial to the right until
the lock bolt is fully retracted.
Other
Options
TMI
Delayed Action Timelocks can be ordered with “silent-signal”
function and or switches that indicate the position of the
combination lock’s bolt.
*Special
Order Only*
The silent-signal feature is actually a duress feature.
During a hold-up, the end user adds 10 numbers to the first
number their existing combination.
This allows an internal switch to be activated.
This internal switch is interfaced with the customers’
existing alarm system and activates a silent alarm, summoning local
law enforcement.
The lock will open in the usual manner and will not alert the
perpetrator that an alarm has been sent

How
to Change the Delay Periods
-
If the timer is installed and the container locked,
operate the lock using the outlined procedures under “How to
Use Your New DAT.”
Open the container door, extend the locking bolts and
rotate the combination lock’s dial left at least twice.
-
Remove the two timer housing screws, which are visible
at the rear of the clear plastic housing.
-
Locate the “Display Wheel Gear.” This component is the
largest, visible gear and is inscribed with numbers 7 - 10 - 15
- 20 - 25 - 30 These numbers represent the available delay
periods.
-
Locate
the slotted screw, which will be in one of the available time
setting screw holes of the Display Wheel Gear. Remove this screw and
relocate it to the desired new delay setting. Tighten the screw, but
avoid over-tightening. NOTE:
If the desired delay change will increase the delay period, do
not remove the slotted timing screw until the movement has come
to a complete stop. If
the desired delay change will decrease the delay period, the
movement should be fully wound before you remove the timer
housing from the lock body.
Full winding is accomplished by dialing the combination
in the usual manner with the door open. After you remove the
timer housing from the lock body, immediately locate and remove
the slotted timing screw, relocating it to the new delay period
screw hole in the Display Wheel Gear.
-
Install the timer housing, securing it with the two
timer housing screws. Do
not over-tighten these screws.
-
Test the Delayed Action Timelock at
least three (3) times with the door open.
